Did you notice that every dog has its own personality? Some dogs are happy running around all day long while others just enjoy being couch-potatoes. Some little dogs are brave as oppose to their size and they bark fearlessly to bigger dudes. Many of those traits were descended from their breeding history. Alongside with the human-dog companion history, there are 6 major breeding groups of dogs.
– Siberian husky, Samoyed, Alaskan malamute, Rottweiler, Doberman pinscher, Boxer, Standard Schnauzer
Working group dogs are pack animals that they have hierarchy, led by an alpha dog. Especially three breeds, Siberian husky, Samoyed and Alaskan malamute, were bred to pull the sledges in Northern pole and they have profound double coat that sheds twice a year.
Rottweiler and Doberman breeds can be raised indoors and they need a lot of human affection. They feel happy to sit on your lap to ask for a cuddle, so don’t leave them alone outside.
– German shepherd, Belgian malinois, Boder collie, Welsh corgi
Their instinct to gather, herd, and protect moving animals cannot be hidden even when they were not grown in the farm. They also show a great level of concentration on moving things, making their favorite play to catch balls.
– Beagle, Dachshund, Greyhound, Afghan hound, Whippet
Wildlife hunters in the past used hound group dogs to spot the game animals with their acute scenting power and relentless running stamina. No wonder that these days beagles are served as sniff dogs with its excellent scenting ability. Greyhounds are famous for racing dogs.
– Miniature Schnauzer, Bull terrier, Bedlington terrier
Terrier’s breeding history explains why they are so obsessed with digging your yards. Farmers bred terriers to guard their farm from vermin or small mammals like rats. Hairy foreheads were helpful digging underground without getting too much dirt.
– Spaniels, Pointers, Retrievers, Setters
As their names suggest, Pointers pointed game birds while Setters located them by smell and Retrievers retrieved the fallen ones. This also explains why Retrievers love to swim and play with balls as their retrieving instinct say.
– Bichon frise, Boston terrier, Bulldog, Shar-pei, Shiba inu
Some dog breeds in the history are introduced as noble dogs who were raised by high class families. Examples are Bichon from French nobles and Shar-pei from China royal families.
– Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Maltese, Poodle, Pug, Yorkshire terrier
Lovely tiny dogs that we love! They are just perfect for the people living in the city, who enjoy a walk regularly in nearby parks. Don’t underestimate small dogs especially Chihuahua, the world’s smallest breed who’s known with its fearless braveness, that they can challenge bigger dogs and even you! But they will mostly give you a smile with excessive cuteness. =)
